JOTT documentation of early personal Mandela Effects

Just One of Those Things

Two researchers, Barrington and Jinks, have documented personal Mandela Effects and reality shifts as “jotts,” “jottles,” and “DOP,” providing well-documented case histories of these events well back into the 1950s, with anecdotal evidence going much further back than that.

This past month, Jeff Mishlove, author and host of the excellent program, Thinking Allowed, asked if I had heard of a book called JOTT written by Mary Rose Barrington.  Until Jeff Mishlove mentioned this book, it had not been on my radar at all.

JOTT:  When Things Disappear… and Come Back or Relocate–and Why it Really Happens was published in 2018.  I love how it normalizes the reality shift or personal Mandela Effect phenomenon as merely being “Just One of Those Things,” or “JOTT.”  Author Mary Rose Barrington was born in London in 1926, studied law, and served as Vice President of the Society for Psychical Research.

Excellent documented evidence of MEs back to 1950s

Mary Rose BarringtonOne of my favorite things about JOTT is that it was written by a researcher born in the 1920s who was keenly aware that instances of objects disappearing, reappearing, teleporting, and appearing-out-of-nowhere were matters of common knowledge over a century ago.  JOTT references several articles on “Jottles” written by Barrington, going back to the early 1990s; Barrington was clearly fascinated with this topic.  Some of the detailed reports included in JOTT occurred as early as the 1950s, and Barrington pointed out that this phenomenon has a history going much farther back even than that.  Barrington writes,

“In our time, we seldom hear reports of sensational macro-phenomena said to have taken place during the 100 years starting mid-nineteenth century, when many people believed that such things were possible and that they could be evoked by the human endeavor, usually with input from the supposed spirit world.” [1]

Many of the first-hand reports described in JOTT came from submissions following an article from the magazine, “The Unexplained,” that described what we now recognize as personal Mandela Effects or reality shifts, asking readers to please write in with any of their experiences.

Where have “Jottles” been all my life?

Looking back to the list of references in the back of JOTT, I was stunned to see several articles on “Jottles” written by Barrington all the way back to the early 1990s, documenting what PMH Atwater referred to as “Reality Shifts” in a chapter by that name in 1999 in her book, Future Memory.  I did not find Atwater’s work until well after I’d written my book, Reality Shifts, yet Atwater’s take on the subject closely paralleled mine.

Tony JinksNow that I know to look for other terms for reality shifts and personal Mandela Effects, I see there are several articles about “jottles” published by Barrington going back to the 1990s, and a 2016 book about Disappearing Object Phenomenon, also known by the acronym “DOP,” by author Tony Jinks. [2]  Jinks apparently was aware of the terms “JOTT” and “jottles,” but apparently not the terms, “reality shift” nor “Mandela Effect.”

Truly we are living in interesting times, when the research about the same topic is being conducted in different niches. Both Barrington and Jinks have apparently been completely unaware of reality shifts as documented by myself and PMH Atwater in our books Reality Shifts and Future Memory, as well as the ever-expanding awareness of the general public of personal Mandela Effects.

Dr. Tony Jinks is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Social Science and Psychology, Western Sydney University, NSW, Australia. Tony is the President, Australian Institute of Parapsychological Research. He has a background in Neuroscience and has published in the field of neuroscience, perception, parapsychology and paranormal belief and experience.

JOTT and Jottles Typology

Barrington’s typology for what we now know as personal Mandela Effects and reality shifts and what she called “Just One of Those Things” or JOTT or jottles includes:

Flyaways – objects vanish
Turn-Ups – objects appear
Windfalls – objects appear that were not previously yours
Comebacks – objects reappear after having disappeared
Walkabout – something comes back, but not where you left it
Trade-Ins – something has been traded for what you’d previously had

Barrington attributes the JOTT phenomenon to being related to Cosmic Mind, and recognizes that these experiences are relatively widespread, and have been around for quite a long time.

DOP Typology

Australian psychology professor and author Dr. Tony Jink’s typology for what we now know as personal Mandela Effects and reality shifts and what he calls Disappearing Object Phenomena (DOP), involving 385 case studies that he finds convincing, trustworthy, and reliable  Dr. Tony Jinks gave a 2017 talk in which he specifically rules out that experiencers of Disappearing Object Phenomena are psychologically distinguishable from non-experiencers.  That is to say that experiencers are not suffering from such possible psychological issues as:  transcience; telescoping; errors of commission (suggestibility, illusionary correlation, confirmation bias); perceptual blindness (ie: inattentional blindness); altered states of consciousness (hallucinations, autohypnosis); encoding errors (“absent mindedness”);  memory distortion (pre-existing beliefs); and loose associationism.  Typology of DOP includes:

Disappearances – like Barrington’s Flyaways
Appearances – like Barrington’s Turn-Ups and Windfalls
Reappearances – like Barrington’s Comebacks and Walkabouts
Replacement – equivalent to Barrington’s Trade-In

Jinks notes that DOP events are isolated incidents–they are discontinuities.  Jinks contemplates possible causes of DOP such as:  invisibility; teleportation and/or wormholes; parallel universes;  dimensional shifts; external agents; and human-centered causes (such as witnessed in psychokinetic abilities, for example).  Jinks’ favored explanation is human-centered causes, unwittingly caused by the experiment themselves, for various obscure subconscious reasons.  Jinks recognizes that these DOP incidents are characterized by a quality of Seamlessness, and he therefore likes the idea of conscious observation (by multiple consciousness states) that are responsible for ‘collapsing reality,’ so we have the consensual reality we have now, such that the new situation appears as if it has always been that way.

Reality Shifts & Personal Mandela Effect Typology

Those of us who have been communicating and conversing about personal Mandela Effects and reality shifts note the general categories suggested by Barrington and Jinks.  After more than 20 years of collecting hundreds of first-hand reports of reality shifts from around the world on the http://www.realityshifters.com website, we expand the typology to include:

Disappearances – like Barrington’s Flyaways
Appearances – like Barrington’s Turn-Ups and Windfalls, including buildings
Reappearances – like Barrington’s Comebacks and Walkabouts
Transformations – equivalent to Barrington’s Trade-In & Jinks’ Replacement, plus changes in body physiology (hair, eye color) and healing
Changes in experience of Time – time loops, traveling fast, meeting future self
Alive Again – people previously reported deceased are alive
Teleportation/Tunneling – people & objects teleported past or through objects
Synchronicity – events align meaningfully

Well worth note is the observation reality shifts and personal Mandela Effect often go far beyond a simple matter of ‘objects gone missing’ and there is, in fact, an awareness that some large objects–such as buildings, mountains and trees–have been noticed to have disappeared, appeared, reappeared and transformed.  Many people are witnessing changes to the human physiology and anatomy–such as repositioning of the heart and kidneys.  Some people notice we are now in a different part of the Milky Way galaxy, such as Orion, instead of Sagittarius.

As always, I encourage all of us to keep asking my favorite question, “How good can it get?”

Boggling delayed choice participatory universe, horoscopes, and Mandela Effects

Boggling delayed choice participatory universe

When I play the game Boggle with friends, we’ve often been amazed at the way we find some words so consistently.  Sometimes for three consecutive games in a row, we might find the same word, such as “toe” for example.  While playing Boggle via email over the internet during this pandemic, my friends and I noted that there seemed to be a subconscious awareness of health and coronavirus topics–which perhaps comes as not too much of a surprise.

I also noticed that some of the words that I was finding had some kind of fire theme going on.  I figured of course, living in California, fire safety is on my mind with regard to keeping dead woods cleared out of the garden, and getting on top of weed and grass abatement, too.  When noticing the times that my friends and I find the same word for three or four games in a row–that’s so amazing to me when it happens, since it seems to indicate those words might always be there–or perhaps more accurately, it’s our shared expectation of finding them that ensures those words reality shift their way into each and every game.

Physicist John Archibald Wheeler asserted that we live in a Participatory universe, in which the measurements we choose to make, truly matter.  Wheeler also proposed a series of experiments to test the notion that light somehow “senses” the experimental apparatus in the double-slit experiment it travels through, and adjusts its behavior to fit.  While Wheeler’s musings were constrained to laboratory settings only, many of us observing such things as mysteriously recurring Boggle words might well wonder to what degree quantum physics is involved in our regular daily lives.

Participatory personalized horoscopes

Some of us might have already taken a similar look at the accuracy of some horoscopes–or pretty much any kind of intuitive divination system (such as the I Ching or Tarot cards), which can be uncannily specific.  From a quantum physics-operating-in-daily-life point of view, we can consider the idea that the horoscope actually might be tailor-written just for you and me, just for that exact moment when we read it.

I don’t expect the horoscope was written once, and then read the same by everyone at all.  This is such a good example of why individuals can believe in ‘silly things’ such as astrology, when subjective reality rules the universe!  If and when we compare notes with one another, we force an observed system to comply with our chosen entanglement–and at that point, the wave functions can again collapse.  I’d expect those cases of increased entanglement to ‘force the collapse’ of the wave function in such a way that some people would actually notice these reality shifts, with some of their horoscopes changing right before their very eyes.

I expect that is what is occurring with many reality shifts and Mandela Effects—it’s a natural matter of increasing the number of groups of people all ‘comparing notes’ about various observations, and Nature making corrections to bring alignment and agreement of ‘the facts’ to match ever-increasing numbers of populations of people coming to take a look at some particular thing.  Whether that thing is Boggle board, that day’s horoscope in the newspaper, or a brand logo or name, all the increased number of observers is bound to make a difference, and certain to lead to some observed shifts in reality.

All of this, of course, can remind us to keep asking my favorite question, “How good can it get?”

Learn How to Dowse with Wire Coat Hangers

YTcsldowsingIn just a few minutes, you can learn how to dowse with wire coat hangers. The first thing you will need is to get one one or two wire coat hangers. If you’ve got two wire coat hangers, this works a little bit better.

Secondly, you want to hold them this direction, so that your hand is on the flat bar, one hand on each. What you are doing is you are allowing these hangers to swing freely like this. You can see them swing one way, than the other. That means you’re not gripping too tightly. You want to hold on loosely, and keep the wire straight up and down.

And the third thing is you want to focus your attention on what it is that you are looking for. This means that for each time you are dowsing, it is essential that you maintain a clear and undistracted mental focus of attention on whether you are looking for subterranean water, ley lines, or human energy fields.

I learned how to dowse in the town of Royston, England, where the curator of the museum showed me that I could find both the energy lines–the male and female energy lines under the museum called the Michael and Mary ley lines, and I could also refocus my attention and look for water, finding water under the cobblestones in the courtyard. It was really amazing to me because it works so easily.

CynthiaDowsingHangers

So here’s how you do it. Hold on to your coat hangers, making sure that you get the feeling that they can move freely, so you know you are not gripping the hangers too tightly. Make sure that you are holding them straight up and down, with both of them in hand.

Thirdly, once you’re holding them straight up and down, and they are in position–focus your attention. So if you’re looking for something such as water lines under your property, you can move around walking with these. They will be swaying as you walk, like that. That is very normal. When you hit the edge of water, if that’s what you’re looking for, you will get a response where the hangers swing together, or they might swing open.

As you cross across that water to the other side, then your hangers will go back to this swing again, and they will be swinging left and right with each step, pretty much. And that tells you are doing this very nicely. Other things you can dowse for as I describe in my book, Aura Advantage, is that you can also dowse for energy fields of the people around you: your family, your friends. You can also dowse the energy field of plants and so forth.

Why does this work? As I describe in my book, Quantum Jumps, this is basically one of the many quantum phenomena that we are increasingly noticing in this Quantum Age, in this case entanglement. You’re able to put your focus of attention on something that you can actually sense remotely and get a response with, because you’re entangled with it.

Have fun with dowsing!

Learn How to Muscle Test in Minutes

YTcslmuscletestMuscle testing is a wonderfully simple technique that you can use just about anywhere you go to tap into intuitive information we all have access to. You might notice sometimes you have gut feelings about whether a choice you’re contemplating will work out well for you or not, and if you’d like to find a way to better hear that “still, small voice,” muscle testing is a wonderful thing you can learn to do in just a few minutes that can provide you with intuitive information very quickly in almost any situation, any time, anywhere.

CynthiaFingerCirclesThis type of muscle testing is a one-person technique that requires you have both hands free. You start by putting your fingers together so both hands are making little circles between thumbs and the pinky fingers. What you’re doing is creating something like a daisy chain when you put the two links together, intersecting the circle you’ve just made with your left hand and the circle you’ve just made with your right hand.

You can actually make these circles using your thumb on each hand with any other finger you like–but I suggest using your pinky finger, because usually it’s one of the weakest fingers. The advantage of weakness is that for muscle testing, we want some minimal resistance, but not too much.

Once you’ve made finger circles with both hands and they intersect like two chains in a daisy chain, the next thing you do is ask a question that you already know the answer to. For example, I would ask myself, “Am I Cynthia Sue Larson?” and pull my daisy chain rings apart–and they hold together very firmly. I’m not really trying to do this, I’m just focusing on, “Am I Cynthia Sue Larson?” This is my “Yes” when the chain does not pull apart.

Now that I’ve seen what a “Yes” looks like, I can ask a question such as, “Is my name John?” and I pull the chain apart. I’m once again not TRYING to do this at all, it’s just a weakness in the muscle, so that’s why they call this “muscle testing.” It is a form of dowsing. The reason behind it has a lot to do with physics, actually, and the fact that when you ask a question, you are essentially entangling yourself with the subject of your inquiry. This is through the focus of your attention. I talk about dowsing in my book, Aura Advantage, which describes some other methods you can use. I describe the fact that we are in the Quantum Age right now in my book, Quantum Jumps, describing many of the principles behind quantum physics, such as entanglement, coherence, superposition of states, and teleportation.

You may wonder what muscle testing is useful for. You can use it for choosing things, when you want to know in advance before opening the package, is it good for you? Is this the right car to buy? You can say, “Is this broken-down jalopy that gets twelve miles to the gallon and costs twenty thousand dollars– is this the right car for me?” and see you get a very clear NO in reply!

If you ask a serious question, and you’re looking at different options for different cars, cameras, computers, or anything might want to figure out such as:

• where you want to live

• what kind of food is good for you

• which restaurant to choose

and so forth, you can get really strong indicators. You are connecting with your intuition; you are entangling with the subject of your inquiry.

You can also use muscle testing to locate things and people. I’ve used this successfully– this very same method, because my hands are always with me– to locate my friends and family when I’ve been in crowded environments. I just ask, “Should I turn? Are they to the right of me?” and then if I get a strong yes, I know to go that direction. And I have ended up able to just walk directly to a group that I’d gotten detached from when we were all wandering around the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

So have fun with muscle testing!
